FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION

Full Mouth
Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction is quite a different process from a smile
makeover where the primary purpose is to improve the appearance of
your teeth. With full mouth reconstruction, a combination of complex
treatments will rebuild a badly damaged mouth, restoring a person’s
ability to smile, talk and eat confidently and comfortably.

WHO MIGHT NEED FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION?

Full mouth reconstruction may be appropriate for you if your teeth and jaws have suffered significant damage due to dental disease or to injury. This might be the case if you had advanced periodontal disease, have had a significant number of tooth infections, or if you have been unfortunate enough to be in an accident. This treatment may also be helpful if you have significant problems with your bite that may have resulted in a painful and potentially destructive condition called temporomandibular disorder or TMD. Full mouth reconstruction can be used to restore some or all of your teeth.

WHAT TYPE OF TREATMENTS ARE TYPICALLY INVOLVED
WITH FULL MOUTH RECONSTRUCTION?

Full Mouth

Treatments typically used to reconstruct a smile include crowns and bridges, porcelain veneers and tooth colored fillings. More advanced treatments may include gum lifting, bone grafts, and dental implant treatment, and orthodontics to realign your teeth. The main aim with full mouth reconstruction is to restore full dental health and to ensure you have teeth that are fully functional, while of course creating a new smile that will look attractive. If you have any active periodontal disease then you will require specialized treatment to help bring this disease under control. If you have TMD, this will also need treatment, as will teeth grinding or clenching, a condition called bruxism. Any tooth infections must be treated with root canal therapy. It is important to have a healthy mouth before your smile can be reconstructed as this will ensure your treatments will last for longer.
