Implant-Supported Crowns

Lots of people will lose a single tooth perhaps to injury or tooth decay, or because of failed root canal therapy. Whatever the reason, even missing a single tooth can be detrimental to your dental health. It can allow your existing teeth to drift out of place, affecting the stability of these teeth and your bite. This is why it’s always better to think about ways of replacing it as soon as you can. One of the best and most long-lasting methods of replacing a single tooth is to use an implant supported crown.

What Are the Benefits of Choosing
an Implant-Supported Crown?

With an implant supported crown, there is no need for your dentist to cut down the teeth adjacent to the gap. Instead, the crown is supported by the implant post and this ensures the teeth adjacent to the gap cannot move or shift out of position. Your implant crown will look as if it is emerging from your gums exactly like a natural tooth. Dr. Iskandar will work closely with our dental laboratory to ensure your implant crown looks incredibly natural, making it virtually impossible for anyone to ever know you lost a tooth. One of the best things about using an implant-supported crown is its effect on your jawbone. The implant post will prevent jawbone loss which is extremely important for dental health. This is the only treatment that can do this.

What Is the Procedure for an
Implant-Supported Crown?

Your first consultation with Dr. Iskandar will determine your suitability for treatment and will be followed by diagnostic tests that include a cone beam CT scan. Using this diagnostic information, Dr. Iskandar will carefully plan your surgery, creating a surgical guide or stent to be used during the surgical procedure. It doesn’t take very long to insert a single dental implant and generally this can be completed using just local anesthetic.

If you do require additional anesthesia then please talk to us here at Radiance Dentistry, as we can supply additional sedation in the form of nitrous oxide or oral sedatives to make sure you feel comfortable and relaxed during this procedure. Once the implant has been inserted, you will be provided with a temporary tooth if needed, along with detailed instructions on how to care for the implant site until it fully heals and integrates with your jawbone. This will take approximately three months, after which time you can return to our dental office in Irving, TX for your implant-supported crown to be made and fitted. Once in place, it’s easy to look after your new crown as you can simply brush and floss it just like your natural teeth.

Who Can Have an
Implant-Supported Crown?

Provided you have reasonable general health and do not have any existing dental problems, you are likely to be a good candidate for an implant-supported crown. If you smoke, you must be prepared to quit completely during treatment and it would be preferable to give up for good, as this habit does impair healing and does increase the risk of implant failure. Once the implant is in place, you need to practice good daily oral hygiene and you must see your dentist for regular checkups and dental cleanings. Sometimes implant supported crowns are used to replace teeth that are congenitally missing. If this is the case then your teeth and jaws will need to have finished growing and developing before implant treatment can take place. All these factors are much more can be discussed during your initial consultation with Dr. Iskandar.
