How Implants Work

The introduction of dental implants has transformed the way we are able to replace missing teeth, offering patients a long-term solution for restoring teeth with implant-supported crowns, bridges, and full dentures. This advanced dental technology can provide teeth that feel just as strong and as stable as natural teeth, and which are every bit as comfortable, while aesthetically enhancing your smile.

If you are struggling with tooth loss, or know you will soon lose teeth, contact Radiance Dentistry to book your consultation with Dr. Mounir Iskandar. This initial appointment in our comfortable dental office in Irving, TX, will enable Dr. Iskandar to explain treatment more fully and to evaluate your suitability.

What Are Dental Implants?

gen-implants-parts2Dental implants are designed to artificially replace a tooth root using a small titanium post that is surgically inserted into the jaw. There is no need to be concerned, as we will ensure you are comfortable and relaxed during this procedure to insert single or multiple dental implants as required. Once surgery is completed, the implants must be given time to bond or fuse with the surrounding bone, a process called Osseo integration. During this time new bone cells grow on and around the specially treated implant post, fusing it firmly in place until it becomes strong and stable and able to support a new restoration. We know many patients are concerned they will be left without teeth during treatment, but we can place a temporary restoration so you will still be able to eat, talk and smile.

As soon as your implants have fully integrated with the jawbone, Dr. Iskandar will attach an abutment to the implant post. This protrudes above the gum line and supports the crown, bridge or denture. The final step is to make your new restoration, which is carefully designed to restore appearance and function. Once in place, your new restoration should feel instantly comfortable and natural.

What Are the Benefits
of Dental Implants?

Dental implants are able to offer several important benefits compared to more traditional restorative treatments. These include:

  • Superior Strength and Stability
Traditional restorations often lack the strength and stability found in natural teeth. By replacing your natural tooth roots with artificial tooth roots, we can restore your missing teeth in a way that will provide the kind of strength and stability previously only found in natural teeth. Implant-supported teeth cannot move or shift position and will allow you to eat just about anything you desire.
  • Increased Durability
Provided you care for your dental implants correctly, you should enjoy the results of this treatment for many years to come and even for life. Here at Radiance Dentistry, we are so confident in the quality of our dental implants that we offer a 10-year warranty for our implants and our implant-supported restorations.
  • Improved Dental Health
When you lose natural teeth, stimulation to the jawbone is also lost, resulting in bone resorption. By artificially replacing a tooth root, a dental implant can halt this bone loss, protecting your oral health and the health of your remaining teeth. No other dental restoration offers this type of protection.

Who Can Have
Dental Implants?

Provided you are in good dental health and have good overall health, you are likely to be a good candidate for dental implant surgery. Ideally, you should be a non-smoker, or you must quit during this procedure. Your jawbone density is another important factor, as dental implants need to be inserted into strong and healthy bone in order for treatment to be a success. Jawbone loss can occur if you lost your natural teeth quite some time ago, or if your jawbone has been destroyed due to periodontal disease. There is no need to be concerned if your jawbone isn’t quite strong enough as Dr. Iskandar can perform a bone graft to restore missing bone. Your initial consultation will determine if dental implants are the most suitable option for you.
